Children’s Christmas Adventure Trail
After the fun of our Halloween trail, we’re delighted to bring you another family-friendly outdoor adventure in St John’s Garden this festive season!
This time, Santa’s in a bit of a muddle… With so many presents to deliver, he decided to recruit some new reindeer — but they’ve wandered off, and he can’t remember their names!
We’ll be asking the children to complete a codebreaker challenge by using information from the Hidden Histories Boards to uncover the names of Santa’s missing reindeer and make sure Christmas can go ahead as planned! There will also be festive actions to complete at each Hidden Histories Board to help Santa raise Christmas cheer (and to keep them — and you — moving!).
We hope this will be a great excuse to get the kids outside, and for local parents to get to know each other and continue to build the village around us that we all need as parents!
Event Details
When: Sunday 7 December, between 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm
Where: St John’s Garden
Who for: Approximately children aged 5–12, but it should be fun for most ages to have a run around
Cost: Free
What to Bring / Wear
Volunteers from St John’s Garden will be on hand to help, but children will need an adult to supervise them.
Please bring a pencil or pen if you can to complete your codebreaker challenge.
Festive outfits encouraged! Reindeer antlers, elf hats, cosy Christmas jumpers — or whatever but note trainers/active, outdoor shoes are encouraged to enable them to complete the different actions (jumping, hopping etc.)
The challenge should take around 20–30 minutes approximately, and we plan to have some festive treats to reward participants for completing the challenge — or simply for having a go!
Looking Ahead
We’ll be launching the Codebreaker sheets before the event, which will be available to download on the website — and we’ll have a small number of printed copies available in the park on the day.
We hope this will be another fun, seasonal activity for families in the garden, and we’d love to hear your ideas for future events or feedback on how your little elves enjoyed this one.
