June News from the Garden

It’s mid summer and there are so many things happening in the garden...

Blooming this month

The delicate pale pink flowers of the Endres cranesbill and the punchier purples of Himalayan cranesbill swaying in the breeze.

Happening this month

Every Monday at 8am in June - 40 mins of peaceful Qi Gong. No special skills needed  - not even balance!

Saturday 21 June at 10am-12 noon - In this month’s Community Gardening session we’ll be creating a butterfly garden, complete with an insect hotel, basking rocks, puddle station and plenty of pollinator planting.

Saturday 21st June at 6pm - We’ll be celebrating summer solstice with Poetry in the Park, reading some summery poems and drinking lemonade. Everyone is welcome - no charge, no sign-up, just come along and enjoy being in the garden.

Foraging this month

We have a small number of baby birds in the garden and given the dramatic decline of bird numbers in the UK we’re doing everything we can to protect them by improving soil quality (more worms!) planting edibles & flowers (more fruits and seeds!) and protecting their foraging habitats.

Research shows that the presence of dogs cuts the number of baby birds by 40% as parents are too afraid to forage for food. So for dog owners, an easy way to help wildlife is to keep our four-legged friends on the lead and give our blue tits, great tits, robins and blackbirds a chance to raise their families in peace.
